Welcome, friends.
I recently recorded a solo episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast, and I wanted to share the heart of that message here, especially for those of you who prefer to read rather than listen.
I don’t often do solo episodes. Truth is, I’ve had a wave of amazing guests lately, and I love letting them shine. But something’s been tugging at me to pause and reflect, to share the journey of this podcast and what it’s taught me.
When I started, I had no idea what I was doing.
The Ripple Effect Podcast started off as just me, a mic, and a message. I didn’t know if anyone would listen, besides a few generous friends and maybe my dad. But I felt this deep urge to talk about what I care about most: connection.
Real, authentic, human connection.
I created this show to bring the ideas from my book, The Ripple Effect: Maximizing the Power of Relationships for Your Life and Business, into a conversational format. I wanted to highlight the small but powerful actions we take, or what we call “Ripples,” that make a difference in our lives and in the lives of others.
And then... It started to catch fire.
Somewhere along the way, the show evolved. People started tuning in. Guests began to share their stories, and those stories resonated. These weren’t always billion-dollar entrepreneurs or social media influencers. Many of them were quiet “Ripplers,” doing incredible work in their own way. Often, they didn’t even realize the impact they were making until our conversation helped them see it.
That’s when I knew my job wasn’t just to talk about my ideas. It was to be a spotlight for others. To help people recognize the value of their own contributions and the unseen Ripples they’re already creating.
I realized it’s about doing the little things well.
This show? It wasn’t born from grand plans or studio budgets. It was built slowly, one episode at a time. I had to learn how to podcast, edit, manage audio and video, and eventually, learn how to interview well.
Was I perfect in the beginning? Heck no.
I had a friend early on who told me she couldn’t get through an episode because of how many “ums” and “ahs” I had. It stung. But she wasn’t wrong. It forced me to listen back, to refine, and to grow. And yeah, part of me thought, “Why did she have to say it like that?”
But in hindsight, that discomfort pushed me to level up.
And instead of making the show for her or anyone else, I chose to make it for ME and YOU. The people who truly show up and care.
Sometimes, your best work won’t be seen by a crowd. Sometimes, the moment that matters most is the one you have alone. When you realize you’re growing, you’re getting better and finally stepping into your zone of genius.
I had one of those moments recently, watching back an interview I’d been nervous about. And as I listened, I didn’t cringe as I expected. I thought, “Wow. That was actually good.” And then I remembered: That was me. No AI, no editing wizardry. Just me.
I’m still learning. Still growing. Still grateful. If this show has inspired you, taught you something, or made you think a little differently, thank you. Truly.
And if you’re working on your own Ripple—a podcast, a project, a business, or just becoming a better version of yourself—keep going. It’s the perfect time to reassess and look at how far you’ve come. After all, this month’s Ripple community theme is all about Mid-Year Check-In: Reboot & Refresh.
Don’t focus on what others are doing better than you. Instead, compare yourself to who you were yesterday. No matter how minuscule, I’m sure there’s progress. And that’s something to be proud of.
Do the work. Show up. Trust that your Ripples matter, even when no one’s watching.
I’ll keep doing the same.
